Zakynthos tourist tax. Climate fee – do you have to pay? Hotels 3, 4 & 5*
A vacation on Zakynthos is an unforgettable experience, as there are beautiful sandy beaches, azure water, plenty of greenery and authentic Greek cuisine full of local delicacies. Despite its growing popularity, there is no need to fear crowds of visitors on Zakynthos, but it is worth checking how much the current tourist tax is.
What taxes do tourists pay on Zakynthos?
In 2024, the previous tax on hotel accommodation disappears and is replaced by a tourist tax. It will be higher than the previously charged tax, so it may affect prices in Zakynthos. However, the tourist tax applies everywhere, not just on Zakynthos, so the price of accommodation is still more important, and these vary depending on the location and standard of the hotel.
A novelty is the tourist tax for private accommodations, in those apartments booked online. The owner of the accommodation must inform the customer of the new fee and its amount, and avoiding these fees will result in heavy fines.
How much is the new tourist tax in Zakynthos?
The tourist tax in Greece changes throughout the year, as different rates apply in high season and others in low season. As of March 2024, it will be:
– 1.50 euros per room in a 1-star or 2-star hotel (0.50 euros after the high season)
– 3 euros per room in a 3-star hotel (1.5 euros after the season)
– 7 euros for a room in a 4-star hotel (3 euros after the season)
– 10 euros for a room in a 5-star hotel (after the season 4 euros)
Tourist tax is charged for each day of stay. The rate for private apartments is set at 1.50 euros per day, and for villas it is 10 euros per day.
