Tunisia tourist tax
Tunisia is one of the most visited countries in Africa. However, how much will you have to pay for such a stay? Many places in the Mediterranean have introduced a tourist tax – does the same rule apply to Tunisia?
Is there a tourist tax in Tunisia?
Tunisia derives a lot of income from the tourism industry, but increased tourism also has negative effects. These costs can be offset by special tourist taxes, which are already in effect in many countries around the world. Tunisia is also one of them, in addition, a tourist tax is levied in every Tunisian resort. Prices in Tunisia are considered very affordable, especially for European tourists, nevertheless, you have to reckon with the fact that in 2024 the tourist tax will be higher than in previous years, which will obviously translate into an increase in costs.
Importantly, this tax is not always automatically included in the price of the trip, so make sure in advance whether the office organizing the trip includes the tourist tax in the cost, or whether the tourist still has to pay something extra to the basic price. The tourist tax also applies to solo travelers who organize their trip on their own.
How much do you have to pay in tourist fees in Tunisia?
Rates are currently higher than in previous seasons and depend on the standard of the hotel.Fees are charged in Tunisian dinars (TND) and for one person are:
– 4 TND per night in a 2-star hotel or other low-standard accommodation (e.g. hostels, guesthouses)
– 8 TND per night in a 3-star hotel
– 12 TND per night in a 4- and 5-star hotel
Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the tax.The fee is added to the hotel bill.
