France is the most visited country in the world. Every year tens of millions of tourists come here, for which an excellently developed tourist base awaits them. Does a stay in one of the French hotels require payment of a tourist tax?
Has a tourist tax been introduced in France?
France introduced a tourist tax years ago, and its rate changes every season. The fee is added to the bill for a night’s stay, and importantly, it works in all accommodations, not just hotels. Tourist tax is calculated per person for each night spent – the exception is children and teenagers under 18, who are exempt from the fee in full.
How much is the tourist tax in France?
Rates in France increase depending on the popularity of a region, and the amount of tax is set by local authorities. The current rates are:
– accommodation in a chateau – 0.70-4.30 euros.
– overnight stay in a 5-star hotel – 0.70-3.10 euros
– overnight stay in a 4-star hotel – 0.70-2.40 euros
– accommodation in a 3-star hotel – 0.50-1.50 euros
– accommodation in a 2-star hotel – 0.30-0.90 euros
– accommodation in a 1-star hotel – 0,20-0,80 euros
– accommodation in a hostel – 0,20-0,60 euros
– camping/caravan – 0,20-0,60 euros
– Yacht in a marina – 0,20 euros
A tax of about 0.80-0.90 euros is added for staying in private accommodation.
