Is there a tourist tax in Tunisia?
Tunisia is one of the most visited African countries. In 2017, the Tunisian government decided to introduce a tourist tax, and since Djerba is administratively part of the country, any tourist visiting the island must expect to pay a special tax. Prices in Tunisia are therefore increased by an additional tourist tax, the amount of which is related to the standard of the hotel.

What are the tourist tax rates on Djerba?
Location does not affect the amount of tax, but the type of hotel does. Rates on Djerba start at 1 TND per night in a 2-star hotel. The three-star standard means a tax of 2 TND, and in 4- and 5-star hotels tourists pay 3 TND per night. 1 TND, or Tunisian dinar, is approximately 30 cents, so the highest rate is no more than 1 euro. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from the tax. Tourist tax is charged only for the first 7 days of a stay in the Djerba.
