Tourist tax in Cape Verde. Climate fee – do you have to pay? Hotels 3, 4 & 5*
Cape Verde is an island country, in the Atlantic Ocean, near the northwest coast of Africa. Geographically it overlaps with the Cape Verde Islands. Most tourists visit the islands of Sal and Boa Vista, but regardless of your choice of location, it’s worth checking whether climate taxes apply.
What are the tourist taxes in Cape Verde?
Cape Verde has been charging a climate tax for some time now, and in 2023 it was raised to €2.5 per person. Children under the age of 16 are exempt from the tax. The tourist tax is charged for a maximum stay of 10 days. The fee applies not only to hotels, but also to guesthouses, hostels, private villas and apartments for rent, Airbnb, etc.
Where should I pay the tourist tax?
Prices in Cape Verde do not include this tax and it is paid separately, usually at check-in or check-out from the hotel. Some tours organized by travel agencies include the tourist tax in the price and take care of all formalities on behalf of tourists on the spot – this should be checked before departure and if necessary prepare an additional amount in the holiday budget for the tax.
